The role of the media is to reinforce and protect the freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of information as fundamental rights in a democratic and open society. The media’s role as a critic of society can give rise to a number of problems of a penal and ethical nature and with regard to the right to privacy.
Economic challenges have driven many media companies to unite forces and enter new, less traditional markets. The distribution of television and radio signals over the internet is an example of new developments which have contributed to considerable wealth creation in Norwegian society.
Kluge assists and advises media companies in connection with the acquisition, sale and exploitation of rights, licenses, administrative law issues, negotiations and dispute resolution. We also advise on matters pertaining to the freedom of speech, defamation and slander, editors’ rights and duties, the right of privacy, ethics and public access to information.
